Daddy's Pride Demonstration 12 June 2010 Vienna

We are all affected!

When Human Rights are violated, when there is no security for families, when tribunals are breaking the law, when public administration runs campaigns against half of the population, then we are all affected. Anyone could be next. Anyone can land on the street any day.

What kind of future will we have if men cannot be fathers any more?

Anyone can lose their children within a few hours. Anyone's existence can be ruined forever with unfounded accusations. Fundamental Rights do not hold any more in Austria. This is a list of Human Rights violated systematically in Austrian Family Law:

  • All human beings are born equal in rights.
  • Everyone is entitled to all the rights and freedoms without distinction of sex
  • Everyone has the right to life
  • No one shall be held in slavery or servitude
  • No one shall be subjected to degrading treatment
  • Everyone has the right to recognition everywhere as a person before the law
  • All are equal before the law and are entitled without any discrimination to equal protection of the law
  • Everyone has the right to an effective remedy by the competent national tribunals
  • No one shall be subjected to arbitrary arrest
  • Everyone is entitled in full equality to a fair and public hearing by an independent and impartial tribunal
  • Everyone charged with a penal offence has the right to be presumed innocent until proved guilty according to law in a public trial at which he has had all the guarantees necessary for his defence
  • No one shall be subjected to arbitrary interference with his privacy, family, home or correspondence, nor to attacks upon his honour and reputation
  • Everyone has the right to a nationality
  • Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of himself and of his family
  • Parents have a prior right to choose the kind of education that shall be given to their children

All these rights are systematically broken in Austrian family law. Children have a right to both parents. Fathers have a right to family life. The Austrian government "considers" a refrm of family law, but the changes might end up being superficial. Respect for Human Rights is still not considered a priority. The Austrian minister of Womens Affairs is blocking any substantial change and does not live up to her responsibility as minister of equality. We demand:

  • joint custody for unmarried and divorced fathers
  • reliable contact to both parents
  • recognition of contact to both parents as the basis for child wellbeing
  • end to discrimination of fathers
  • respect for human rights
